STRIKE A LIGHT
Our matchbox project attracted over 1400 submissions. It’s been a great pleasure and inspiration to receive and share all the incredible work. CUT AND PASTE COMPETITION ZINE
EDINBURGH COLLAGE COLLECTIVE & NATIONAL GALLERIES OF SCOTLAND
Edinburgh Collage Collective are pleased to announce the publication of selected entries from the Cut and Paste competition run in collaboration with National Galleries of Scotland
Last Summer ECC and NGS ran an Open Call Project to complement the celebrated exhibition Cut and Paste | 400 Years of Collage at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art – the first retrospective of its kind in Europe.
ECC and NGS selected one image from the exhibition and invited artists to create their own collage based on this image.
Because of the standard of the work, the judging panel decided to create a print publication to showcase a selection of the submissions. We are now therefore thrilled to be launching this very special A5 publication. It includes the winning entry from Missprinted and a selection of those which were shortlisted.
Artists included: MissPrinted, Rocio Romero, Ló Super, Deborah Di Leo, Jon Totel, Miriam Martinez Abellán, Monique Vettraino,
Julie Linger-Belair, Laurence Briat, Riikka Fransila, Carol White, Julia Schneider, Heather Graham, Abbie Dewbrey,
Michelle Concetta Parchini, Beverly Silva, Clashing Squirrel, Andy Larkin, Jon Higham, Ben DiNino, Tom Hodgkinson, Roberta Guarna, Sarah Perkins, Davidt Dunlop, Clive Knights, Susan Lerner and Alison Kurke.
We believe that this publication provides an impression and creates a historical record of the activity and engagement of the ever-growing, global collage community.
Thank you to the Doug + Laurie Kanyer Art Collection for kindly supporting and sponsoring this publication.
Copies are now available for purchase from the EEC SHOP

Cut and Paste | 400 Years of Collage
ECC & NGS Cut & Paste Winner Announcement
We are delighted to report that the Cut & Paste Project attracted more than 700 entries. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed.
If you’ve been following our Instagram feed you’ll know that the quality of the work was very high. This made the judging process both exciting and difficult.
The judging panel was: Patrick Elliot, curator of the current Cut & Paste 400 Years of Collage exhibition; Rhed Fawell, founder of ECC; Emma Gillespie; curator at the NGS; Jill Brown; NGS Press Marketing Officer, (Chairing the judging process).
Each of the four judges selected their favourite pieces. This long list was then whittled down after much discussion to a short list of 5. After more intense debate the judges were unanimous in their final selection of a winner.
We are very happy to announce that the winner is the image above, the artist is Missprinted, Norway, who will receive a prize bundle including an exhibition catalogue.
We will also feature the other 4 shorted listed images in our social media feeds. The other short listed artist were (in no particular order): Lo Super – Spain, Deborah di Leo – Italy, Laotrarous – UK and Jo Totel – USA.
We are exploring the possibility of including all of the judges’ selections in a specially published A5 Zine. Look out for news of this in the coming weeks.
Thank you once again for supporting the project and helping build our community.

Open Submission Project 2018 ‘Cut and Post’ is NOW CLOSED.
Cut & Post announcement
November 2018
ECC and @moif_collage would like to express our profound thanks to all the talented collage artists around the world who contributed to our ‘Cut & Post’ project.
We were completely overwhelmed by the response. Over 1400 individual pieces of work were submitted and the standard was incredibly high. Obviously, this made the selection process extremely difficult since only 24 pieces could go on to be printed as part of our first postcard set. Each of the four person selection panel considered every submission and then produced their own shortlist of 50. They then met and compared these shortlists. After much passionate debate, the final 24 were agreed on. A big thanks to both Leeleelaluna and Kieran madden for being part of our panel and for their tireless energy!
The artists selected have now been notified and we are moving on to producing our postcard set.

VINYLISM - 2018
Our ECC Vinylism exhibition was an international selection of collages from our 2018 Open Submission Project. The theme of our 2018 project was the vinyl record. Once ubiquitous, now niche, the vinyl record inspired over 200 submissions to the project from artists around the world. ECC selected over 100 of the best of these for the exhibition.
The exhibition showcased the rich and diverse range of contemporary collage processes and celebrate the sharing of inspiration as artists connect and forge ideas globally.
Why vinyl?
After our 2017 project – based on the theme of the envelope – drew a huge response and led to our successful G.L.U.E exhibition, ECC was encouraged to create its second annual Open Submission Project – this time exploring the vinyl record as a basis for making work. Like collage, the vinyl record is a physical, analog medium. It is both an art object in its own right and a mechanism for expressing ideas. This commonality made it an ideal subject for our project.
The response was overwhelming, with submissions from as far afield as Australia, Canada and Peru. The works vary widely in style and process but all share the same two strands of visual DNA – collage and the vinyl record.
G.L.U.E - 2017
Our ECC G.L.U.E exhibition was an international selection of collages from our 20178 Open Submission Project. The theme of our 2018 project was the envelopes.
In 2017 ECC issued a call for collages from artists and creatives around the world using the envelope as a basis for making work. Within a few weeks we’d received over 130 submissions from as far afield as Australia, Canada, Los Angeles and Peru.
As the submissions rolled in we launched a social media campaign – #envelopeproject – to encourage a global audience to interact with our collective and the medium of collage online. We are now excited to be presenting these works in an exhibition at The Tent Gallery in Edinburgh this June.
In the current social and political climate, we, as a collective, think it is more important than ever to forge international links with other artists. Our starting point is creating a dialog around the medium of collage; its history as a process, its ability to inspire change and its continuing relevance in our digital age.
